Disability Income Insurance
Disability Income insurance provides you with ongoing monthly support in the event of becoming disabled, leading to the inability to work.
While many companies provide Disability Income Insurance as part of the social benefit package for their employees, there are some that either do not offer it or only cover part of one’s salary. Furthermore, self-employed individuals are often unaware that they are not covered in cases of inability to work, mistakenly assuming they would receive disability income support from the Government.
In fact, the Bituach Leumi (National Insurance Institute) only provides support based on up to 24% of individual’s previous monthly income (depending on one’s family status). The Disability Income Insurance would supplement a further 75%, allowing the individual to receive financial support of up to 99% of their monthly salary prior to the onset of disability.
It is advised that you review your package and if you discover that you have partial or no coverage, consider taking steps to either completely cover yourself or supplement what you are currently insured for.
